Supporting Global Hearing Care
At Amplify Hearing, we’re proud to support a truly inspiring initiative that’s changing lives — one hearing aid at a time. As part of our mission to connect people globally through better hearing, we’re working to ensure that life-changing technology reaches those who need it most, no matter where they live.
In partnership with the Good Samaritan Hospital, Rotary Portland Maine, Rotary International and Rotary Action Group for Peace, Amplify Hearing is helping to bring the gift of hearing to hundreds of people living in the poverty-stricken areas of La Romana in the Dominican Republic. Through this partnership, we’re collecting unwanted, working hearing aids from patients and practices across our network to give them a second life in communities where hearing care is almost impossible to access.

A Mission of Hope and Hearing
For over 20 years, audiologists and Rotarians Drs Roger and Liz Fagan have made 26 trips to the Dominican Republic, delivering more than 4,500 hearing aids. Their mission focuses on helping children and sugar cane workers – particularly in the Batayes – who are disproportionately affected by hearing loss, often due to untreated fevers in childhood. With little to no access to education or communication, many of these children have been wrongly labelled as ‘slow learners’ – until they receive the hearing aids that completely transform their lives.
By training local healthcare workers to perform hearing tests and send audiograms to Drs Fagan in the United States, the programme ensures every aid is programmed accurately before being delivered and fitted in person.

How We’re Making a Difference
Thanks to the continued generosity of our patients and local communities, we’ve collected hundreds of hearing aids – each one helping to restore the gift of hearing to someone in need.
We’ve also donated funds to provide a full year’s supply of rechargeable units and solar chargers, making it possible to power hearing aids even in remote villages where electricity isn’t always available.
This work is only possible because of the kindness and support we receive – and there’s still more we can do together.
How You Can Help
We’re now aiming to collect at least 300 working hearing aids for our next mission trip — and every donation makes a real difference.
Here’s what you need to know:
- All working hearing aids are welcome
- No need to send them in pairs
- No receivers or cleaning required
- Rechargeable aids are appreciated — please include the charging base unit
- Aids for all hearing levels are useful, but there is a particular need for aids suitable for profound hearing loss
- Unfortunately, no NHS hearing aids can be accepted

The Future
This is just the beginning. We’re supporting Rotary Club International’s efforts to secure a global grant that would fund a permanent hearing care clinic in the Dominican Republic – offering consistent, quality support where it’s needed most.
