Helping someone with hearing loss
Hearing loss can be difficult to recognise and people sometimes feel a stigma about the possibility of having to wear a hearing aid, which means they don’t deal with it in the same way they would if it was their eyesight that was worsening.

Why check your hearing?
It is a common fallacy that hearing loss is always age related – it’s not!
Whilst it is true that hearing loss is a natural effect of aging, it can also happen because of a range of factors and conditions that have nothing to do with your age.

Causes of hearing loss
Whilst aging is the most common natural cause of hearing loss, there can be many other causes too. So it is important to get your hearing checked if you suffer from any loss, to help identify the root cause which may be indicative of a more serious health condition.

Tinnitus advice
Tinnitus is the condition associated with hearing noises that do not come from the environment around you, and it can occur in one or both ears. It’s surprisingly common – about 1 in 3 people experience it at some point in their lives. And whilst it is usually not a sign of anything serious, it can be very irritating and distressing for tinnitus sufferers. But there are treatments that can help.

Hearing loss & dementia
Gradual hearing loss is a common symptom of aging, and studies show that people with untreated hearing loss report more concerns about their memory than people with normal hearing. But, more worryingly, for some people untreated hearing loss may also be an early sign of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, studies suggest.
